TheFatGuy is my hero!!!

I was motivated by Michael’s journey and loss of 150 pounds so I asked him to help me. He convinced me that if I would log my food and begin exercising I would lose weight.  He showed me how to calculate my BMR so that I would know the calories I was burning at rest.  He said, “All you have to do is keep your calories less than that number and you are on your way.” He also told me that I needed to increase my water intake.

So, I bought a pretty journal made of handmade paper and got a calligraphy Sharpie and got started.  I also bought a pedometer to track my steps since walking is my preferred method of exercise.

His advice has paid off: I’ve lost 30 pounds in 18 months! And those 18 months were very stressful too! During that time, we were told my dad was dying and had only 3 months to live. He actually lived 10 months and we are grateful for that time but it was very stressing and could have been the end of me taking care of myself while I cared for him and my mom.

Knowing what to focus on as far as my calories, water, and walking helped me stay on track even during my father’s illness and subsequent death.

He helped me find my focus, so I know he can help you!!

I am a 5th grade teacher and met Michael through his wife. Eventually, Michael became someone who mentored groups of students in my class. Through listening to what he had to say I was motivated to make the changes myself. I figured if I was trying to get my students to be healthy I should practice what I preach. Michael sat down with me and showed me how to calculate my BMR so that I would know the calories I was burning at rest.  He said, “All you have to do is keep your calories less than that number and you are on your way.” He also told me that I needed to increase my water intake. Monitoring my calories was easy but water intake was not. I didn’t want to let myself down so really worked hard on these two goals.

He also discussed with me how I needed to take time for myself. I needed to do something physical and mental for me. I started walking more, dancing again, delving back into arts/crafts, and taking more time to read.

What he told me has really paid off!! I have lost 15 total pounds in this journey. It wasn’t easy by all means but I did it. What he taught me wasn’t a “new fad” diet like I see on TV and all my friends talk about. Michael helped to change my way of life.
